As the Easter weekend festivities wind down, tackling the oven clean-up is likely to be on many to-do lists. The task becomes particularly pressing after a sumptuous roast dinner, as oils and juices from the meat can splatter across the oven glass, with stains becoming increasingly stubborn. For those facing an “extra dirty” oven glass door, Instagram’s @the_crestmoor, also known as Hannah Watson, has shared her “easiest” cleaning technique.

Her post, which features a video guide to oven cleaning, reads: “The absolute easiest way to clean your oven door.” She assured viewers: “This whole process takes me less than 10 minutes and it works perfectly every time.”

In her demonstration, Hannah began by generously sprinkling baking soda on the grimy oven glass door and then doused it with hot (but not boiling) water.

Next, she made a ball out of tin foil and used it to gently but effectively scrub the glass, a task that took mere seconds.

To finish off, Hannah used a microfibre cloth to rinse and polish the glass, showcasing a gleaming, streak-free result.

For particularly troublesome glass, Hannah suggested: “Let the baking soda paste sit for 10 minutes after scrubbing and scrub again before wiping.”

Even cleaning gurus at Arm and Hammer vouch for baking soda as a natural and potent solution for cutting through oven grease, noting its non-toxicity, affordability, ease of use, and impressive efficacy.

They explained: “Baking soda is alkaline, and oven grease made of food particles is typically acidic. Baking soda neutralises acids and breaks down the grease, allowing you to wipe it up without a lot of elbow grease.”

It’s also mildly abrasive, making it effective at removing dried, stuck-on foods. Importantly, there's no need to heat your oven, and it can be used directly after a baking soda clean.

Responding to an Instagram user who queried about the suitability of tin foil on oven glass, Hannah assured: “It doesn’t. I was scared the first time I did it too, and it doesn’t. Just apply medium pressure.”

The hack gained traction as people shared their successes. One user exclaimed: “Total game-changer. Mine was absolutely filthy before.”

Another declared: "Genius! I need to try this.” While a third said: “Just tried it - amazing.”
