Unblock shower pipes with 2 natural kitchen items

Brian Toward, home improvement specialist and CEO of leading bathroom retailer Wholesale Domestic, revealed how to unblock shower pipes. "While it might start as a cosmetic issue, too much limescale can lead to blockages if it’s not dealt with properly," said Brian.

Too much limescale that has built up in the shower, for example, can start to affect how well the fixture works. "One of the most common problems people experience is blocked shower pipes," said Brian. "When limescale accumulates inside your plumbing it can restrict how well water flows, leading to weak shower pressure and even temperature fluctuations."

Anybody who has noticed that their shower "suddenly turns cold mid-wash" may have a limescale issue.

"To remove it, start by unscrewing any removable sections of the shower hose," said Brian.

"Then soak them in a bowl or bucket with eight litres of [white] vinegar and a cup of baking soda."

These two kitchen cupboard staples "create a strong reaction that's perfect for unblocking limescale deposits inside the pipework".

The key is to leave the cleaning solution on for "half an hour" before rinsing it off with clean water.

"It’s important to address any limescale inside your shower pipes because if left untreated, it can cause cracks or blockages over time, which can be expensive to fix," Brian cautioned.

If there is a really bad build up of limescale, some scrubbing might be necessary – and repeated white vinegar and baking soda soaks.

For those who are unable to remove the showerhead, "you can also tie a bag of water and [white] vinegar around the showerhead using an elastic band".

Limescale deposits and water marks can also stain the shower glass, but you don't need anything fancy to clear it.

In fact, white vinegar can also be used on the shower screen to remove the unsightly marks.

"If you don’t have white vinegar, you can follow the same process with lemon juice instead," Brian added.

Lemon juice can also be used to remove any limescale deposits that have built up around bathroom taps.
