Apple crumble will taste 'delicious' if you add 1 extra ingredient![]() British pub food is a staple for many across the country, even if those abroad may think it’s weird or bland. One TikTok creator is helping home cooks learn how to recreate some of the country’s most iconic and well-loved pub dishes for themselves. George Darbyshire, more popularly known as Food with George, has been sharing his recipes for the whole world, so they too can learn how to make proper, hearty British grub at home. In a recent video, George shared his take on the classic apple crumble with custard. Using three different types of apples in his recipe, George also has a sneaky ingredient he adds to the apple mixture to elevate the flavour. Apart from the lashings of sugar and butter, George adds 50 millilitres of whisky to the apples. George’s video has been viewed over 313,000 times, receiving 22,300 likes and 260 comments. One person said: “The man who has single-handedly saved the reputation of British food. Well done.” Another praised, “Good LORD that looks delicious,” while The Fool Slayer wrote, “Gimme a scoop of vanilla ice cream instead of custard.” Caz commented: “Yum you have the absolute best recipes. Yum.” So if you want to recreate some of your favorite pub grub dishes at home, this is what you’ll need. Apple Crumble with CustardIngredients

Method In a large pan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the golden syrup, golden sugar, and brown sugar, stirring until combined. Stir in the whisky and cook for five minutes or until the mixture has reduced slightly. Add the apples and cook for a couple of minutes until the apples are coated in the mixture. Remove from heat. Grease a large deep oven tray with butter and pour in the apple mixture, spreading it evenly. To make the crumble topping, mix the flour, rolled oats and cold butter in a large bowl, and rub it into the mixture using your fingertips until it resembles coarse breadcrumbs. Stir in the golden sugar, brown sugar, almond flakes and walnuts. Spread the crumble evenly over the apple mixture, pressing down slightly to create a thick, firm topping. Sprinkle it with sea salt flakes. Preheat the oven to 180°C. Place the dish on the middle shelf and bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the topping is golden and crisp, and the apples are bubbling. In a saucepan, heat the milk with the vanilla pod and seeds until just below boiling. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks and golden sugar until pale. Slowly pour the hot milk into the egg mixture, whisking constantly. Return the mixture to the pan and cook gently over low heat, stirring continuously until the custard thickens. Do not allow it to boil. Remove the vanilla pod. Spoon generous portions onto plates, and serve with warm custard poured over the top. Source link Posted: 2025-04-17 14:06:38 |
