For those of us with a patio in the garden, there's a common problem that everyone will be aware of - moss. It can grow anywhere, but it's most often found in between paving stones, and it's especially common after the winter. 

It can form when dirt or soil has been blown there by windy conditions, and it's not always the easiest to get rid of. However, before you reach for harsh chemicals, check your kitchen cupboard first. Experts say there's a quick and natural way to banish stubborn patio moss, leaving your garden looking tidy once again. 

Gardening expert Fiona Jenkins at MyJobQuote.co.uk has lifted the lid on how to get rid of this common annoyance in the garden. She says all you need to tackle this issue is two very popular household products - white vinegar and water. 

This is a very affordable solution too, with white vinegar costing as little as 35p from Tesco. This trick works best on really stubborn marks, and it couldn't be any easier to carry out. 

How to get rid of moss 

If you have any stubborn moss marks on your patio, create a mixture of one part water and one part white vinegar. Place this mixture in a spray bottle so that you can easily spread it across the entire surface area.

Spray this mixture across the affected area and leave it to sit there for a while. Then, scrub the area with a stiff brush before hosing the area off.

However, it's not just vinegar that can be an effective tool for getting rid of moss. Something as simple as boiling water can also work wonders, according to the expert. 

All you have to do is carefully pour some boiling water over the affected area, making sure you cover every part of the moss. Then, scrub away at the affected area with a stiff brush. Once the moss comes loose, you can then use a hose to wash away all the debris.

Baking soda also works very well on moss, especially on dry days. Sprinkle some baking soda across the affected area and then leave this overnight, sweeping away the remnants the following day.
