The 1 ingredient that will make any boxed cake 'instantly better'

Boxed cake mixes are a perfect way to make any occasion special without too much effort. The timeless shortcut will give you amazing results by just whisking away the batter.

However, there is one ingredient that, if added, will make the cake mix “instantly better”. Experts from Simply Recipes revealed that adding ricotta cheese to the cake mix will make it tender and moist, even days later. The little-known trick works well for cake mixes like vanilla, chocolate, or funfetti.

They wrote: “I added a little ricotta to my boxed vanilla cake mix—it was so tender and moist and stayed straight-from-the-oven fresh for days.

“My kids are more than happy to enjoy this cake plain, or with a little sprinkle of powdered sugar on top. I've never looked back.”

The experts explained that the best part of adding ricotta is that it works with most boxed cake flavours. So, how to incorporate it in the recipe?

Take 1/2 cup of full-fat ricotta and add to the mix.

Whisk it up with the wet ingredients and then add dry baking mix.

Fold it until combined. Follow the direction for baking.
