Man Utd fan arrested after 'slapping Jack Grealish' as police charge man with assault | Football | Sport

A man has been arrested after allegedly slapping Jack Grealish in the face following Sunday's Manchester derby at Old Trafford. The England international had been involved as a substitute in the goalless Premier League draw between Manchester City and Manchester United.

Grealish came off the bench for City in the 74th minute of the match, replacing Ilkay Gundogan. The former Aston Villa ace wasn't able to inspire City to a win against their local rivals, with the game finishing 0-0. And after the full-time whistle an unsavoury incident with a member of the crowd took place.

As per The Daily Mail, Grealish was allegedly slapped by the supporter while exiting the pitch following this weekend's meeting at Old Trafford. The report claims the man called Grealish over before assaulting the 29-year-old which led to a police investigation.

Grealish isn't believed to have been left seriously hurt by the attack. A man has been arrested by Greater Manchester Police. A statement from the force on Monday read: "Alfie Holt, 20, of Haven Drive, Droylsden, has been charged with assault. He will appear at Manchester Magistrates Court. This charge relates to an incident which took place at Old Trafford yesterday."

It comes after Grealish's City team-mate Phil Foden was subject to taunting chants from the United supporters throughout the stalemate. United fans had been heard chanting about Foden's mother, with Guardiola questioned on the matter following the full-time whistle.

Reacting to the chants, he said: "Lack of class. But it's not United, it's the people, you know? We are so exposed, people who are on the screen in world football - managers, owners, and football players especially. Honestly, I don't understand the mind of the people involving the mum of Phil. It's a lack of integrity, class, and they should be ashamed."

It's a result that leaves City with work to do if they wish to qualify for the Champions League next season, even with an extra place on offer to Premier League sides. Guardiola's side will fall behind Newcastle United - who also have a game in hand over the sides around them - if the Magpies beat Leicester City during Monday night's action.

As for United, Ruben Amorim's side remain in the bottom half of the table, with hopes of qualifying for European competition via their league position unlikely. They will, however, qualify for the Champions League if they win the Europa League, with United in action against fellow quarter-finalists Lyon on Thursday night.
