Herbs will stay fresh for months stored with 1 common fridge staple![]() Adding in a sprinkle of fresh herbs to your meals can make all the difference when it comes to taste. Things like basil, coriander, rosemary and parsley are all hugely popular, and a common addition to weekly shopping lists. However, there's one problem - they don't stay fresh for very long. In just a few days, your herbs can go from being green and vibrant to limp, brown and soggy, therefore unable to use. But according to one social media experts, you can make them last a whole lot longer with a very simple food storage hack. Cleaning influencer Chantel Mila on TikTok, known for her helpful home organisation videos, is also a pro when it comes to food storage and making sure you're getting the most out of your weekly shop. She recently shared a compilation of tips that will 'change the way' you store your food - with her tip about fresh herbs being particularly interesting. The mum says all you need to keep your herbs fresh for months is an ice cube tray and one kitchen staple ingredient - olive oil. Grabbing a few sprigs of rosemary as an example, Chantel placed small pieces in each compartment of an ice cube tray. She then topped it up with olive oil, claiming that freezing the tray is an excellent way to keep them fresh for so much longer. When you want to use them, it's so simple - all you need to do is allow them to defrost, or pop them in a hot pan if you want this done quickly. Then, just continue cooking as normal, and your food will take on that flavour. You don't have to use olive oil either - water will work just as well, according to the experts at Gardeners World. The olive oil just makes it easier for cooking. It's vital that the herbs are completely covered by the water or olive oil before you freeze them, as this will ensure the whole compartment stays fresh. This trick can make them last for 'several months' - so it's ideal if you have a fridge full of fresh herbs you know you aren't going to get through. Source link Posted: 2025-04-07 12:08:15 |
