Shark and Amazon have gone head to head by cutting £200 off a highly-rated Shark vacuum cleaner in a rival deal. The Shark PowerDetect Cordless Pet Vacuum Cleaner is now reduced to £299.99, a 40% price drop from the usual £499.99. The same deal is available at both the Shark website and Amazon. It follows a £160 drop on Sharks popular Stratos Anti Hair Wrap Plus Pet Pro Cordless Vacuum, which was reduced to £289.98 in the brand’s Spring Clean Sale. Shark touts its PowerDetect as a ‘powerful, intelligent, deep-cleaning’ vacuum cleaner, designed with two brush rolls and multiple sensors that serve to automatically boost its cleaning power for the best performance. It also senses edges, corners and floor type and will increase suction when required.

Unlike many rival vacuums, this model picks up dirt when pulled backwards as well as forwards, while the anti Hair Wrap Plus feature removes hair from the brush-roll as it cleans. This makes it ideal for homes with pets, along with the included motorised pet tool that can be used to remove hair from upholstery. The Shark has a long-lasting battery capable of running for 70 minutes, with the level of charge shown on an LED display that also includes the ‘Dirt Detection’ feature. Another standout feature is the ‘Flexology’ wand, which  allows the vacuum to bend to clean underneath furniture, or fold over for compact and freestanding storage.

Shark isn’t the only brand having a spring sale, as Dyson has cut prices across its vacuum cleaner range including £80 off the Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute. This drops the ‘powerful, versatile and low noise’ vacuum to the same £299.99 price tag as Shark’s PowerDetect. 

For a more affordable model, the 4.8-star rated Smoture Cordless Vacuum Cleaner is available for £129.99 at Amazon and is said to ‘compete well’ with higher-end brands thanks to its ‘powerful’ suction. But the Shark PowerDetect Cordless Pet Vacuum Cleaner has achieved a 4.3-star rating from both Shark and Amazon customers, with a combined 151 four and five-star reviews out of a total of 177.

One five-star review says: “Better than my Dyson. The vacuum seems well made and has much better suction than my Dyson, it vacuums to the edges and definitely does a better deeper clean. Having three dogs we need a vacuum that can cope with all the hair. The anti hair wrap function works really well. Battery life is really impressive and allows me to clean our four bedroom house in one go.”

Another said: “Shark’s PowerDetect cordless is fantastic. Bought this to replace my Dyson ball and it is so much better in every regard. Suction is fantastic, aided by the smart sensors and it’s so easy to use. No wire to get in the way and the charge lasts long enough to do our whole house with capacity to spare.”

A third buyer said: “Great performance. It comes with a good range of tools that can fit any lifestyle and reach those tricky spaces. The suction is impressively powerful and it adjusts automatically based on dirt levels, reducing the amount of time you spend cleaning. Plus, it’s easy to store and has a smart design that prevents hair from tangling in the brush head and separating it from the dust.”

However, the same reviewer added: “The only downside is that it’s a bit heavy, but the performance more than makes up for it.”
