UK weather maps show 6 cities that will be hit by 'mini heatwave' as 19C expected | Weather | News

Brits are to swelter in 19C degree heat in early-mid April, according to an online forecaster. WX Charts predicts temperatures pushing 20C across Scotland and Northern Ireland from April 10 to April 12. Unusually, the Scottish Highlands is predicted to see the country's highest temperatures over that period, with 19C expected on April 11 around 6pm.

Enniskillen in Northern Ireland could see the top temperature on April 10, with 18C possible. North Wales could see the national high temperature at 17C on April 12. Over the same period, the south of England will see much cooler temperatures, with the mercury struggling to reach past 12C on April 12 and only slightly higher over the two days before.

The hot weather in Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern Wales could be considered a mini heatwave by some. However, technically heatwaves need to be at least three days of hot weather significantly hotter than the expected temperature for the time of year.

Although temperatures in the high teens in April is warm for Scotland, the period of pleasant weather is not sufficient to be categorised as a heatwave by the Met Office.

"A heatwave is an extended period of hot weather relative to the expected conditions of the area at that time of year, which may be accompanied by high humidity", according to the Met Office.
