Once again, Labour are trying to posture on immigration. But what is Keir Starmer’s latest gambit?

A summit.

More talking, more tough-sounding words, more polished social media clips and broadcast interviews - yet still no real or decisive action.

We face an existential crisis at our borders. Hollow slogans and empty rhetoric simply won’t cut it.

Since Labour took power last year, the number of small boat arrivals has surged. We are now on the precipice of seeing 30,000 illegal entries since the election.

2025 has seen the worst start on record for Channel crossings.

The Home Secretary admitted just this past weekend that the government’s border strategy is entirely dependent on the weather - with Ministers seemingly praying for poor conditions to deter crossings.

And whilst they carp on about their removals programme, a continuation of the work of the last Conservative government, small boat arrivals account for only 3% of those removed from the country by Labour – in fact, the vast majority of the returns under the Labour Government have been voluntary.

This all comes after Starmer and the Labour Party scrapped the Rwanda plan, the only deterrent this country had to illegal migration, leaving our border enforcement in chaos.

It is beyond clear that Starmer’s ‘plan’ is no plan at all. Like so many other Labour promises, his pledge to ‘smash the gangs’ lies in tatters.

To tackle the scourge of illegal migration, this country needs an urgent course correction. It needs radical action - action that Labour are neither willing nor capable of delivering.

That is why the Conservatives have put forward a serious plan to strike at the heart of this crisis.

We have set out plans to deport all foreign criminals—no ifs, no buts. If you commit a crime in this country, you should not be allowed to stay. This should not be a matter for debate or controversy.

We have also put forward proposals to disapply the Human Rights Act entirely for immigration-related matters.

For too long, left-wing lawyers have weaponised human rights laws, stopping those with no real rights to be in this country from being removed.

It is absurd that murderers and rapists are having their ‘right to a family life’ prioritised over the British public’s fundamental right to a safe and secure country.

But when we brought these tough new measures forward, what did Labour do? Vote them down - putting their own bleeding-heart ideology ahead of national security.

It is clearer than ever that Keir Starmer is incapable of taking the necessary action to secure our borders.

Only the Conservatives, under new leadership, will do whatever it takes to protect this country.
