Premier League confirm new third transfer window in major change for Man Utd and co. | Football | Sport

The Premier League have opened up a third transfer window, which will allow teams to sign players ahead of the Club World Cup. The likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal will be able to benefit from the major change, despite the fact Manchester City and Chelsea are the only English teams playing in the competition.

Clubs typically have two transfer windows to get business done every year, with one coming in the summer and one arriving mid-way through the season in January. But this summer’s transfer window has been split into two to enable players to move clubs in time for the Club World Cup. It will briefly shut for a period of five days to create two separate windows as FIFA regulations state transfer windows can only remain open for a maximum of 89 days.

“Premier League clubs have today agreed the dates for the summer 2025 transfer window,” read a statement from the Premier League on Thursday.

“The window will open early, between Sunday 1 June and Tuesday 10 June, due to an exceptional registration period relating to the FIFA Club World Cup. It will then reopen on Monday 16 June and close on Monday 1 September.”

The first part of the transfer window in the summer will enable Pep Guardiola and Enzo Maresca to make any signings they feel they need for the Club World Cup. Both teams will be eyeing up silverware for the second time in the space of a few years.

Chelsea won the Club World Cup in February 2022 after getting the better of Palmeiras in the final.

City then triumphed in the competition in December 2023 after thrashing Fluminense 4-0 in the showpiece match.

This year’s Club World Cup gets underway on Sunday, June 15, with the final scheduled to take place on Sunday, July 13. USA will host the tournament, with the final being played at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

It’s set to be a busy summer in the transfer market, with Ruben Amorim desperate to overhaul his United side following an underwhelming season for the Red Devils.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is also in need of a striker after being forced to play midfielder Mikel Merino as a frontman.

And Liverpool boss Arne Slot could be on the hunt for reinforcements, with Trent Alexander-Arnold edging closer to a move to Real Madrid and Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah coming to the end of their contracts.
