Patio stains and dirt will be 'blasted away' if gardeners use 1 item

After months of rain, snow, and strong winds, garden patios are likely looking a little worse for wear. Lichen, mud, mould, moss, and algae can all cause heavy stains on patios and can be difficult to remove. Not only does this look unsightly, but it can also create a potential hazard, especially after rain.

Manually scrubbing patios can be time-consuming, and it can be difficult if you’ve got knee or back issues. With this in mind, Clair Albone, senior category manager of gardens at Wickes, has shared the best method for cleaning patios and preventing organic growth on these surfaces in the future.

Ms Albone told Express.co.uk: "To maintain your outdoor spaces in top condition throughout the year, it's crucial to regularly clear away debris and leaves. For a deeper clean, consider using a patio and decking cleaner to effectively remove moss and algae growth.

"Another excellent method for cleaning patios is using a pressure washer. These machines are designed to quickly and easily blast away dirt, grime, and other debris."

However, before using a pressure washer, it's important gardeners prepare the area.

Large items and obstacles, as well as weeds, moss, and other unwanted growth, will need to be removed.

If stains are particularly tough, the garden expert suggested pre-treating the area with a cleaning detergent.

Alternatively, gardeners can increase the pressure setting on pressure washers if they encounter stubborn grime.

Ms Albone added: "Finally, post-treating the surface can help eliminate any remaining spores, preventing future organic growth and protecting your patio from the elements.

"This will save you time and effort when spring arrives next year."
