New World War 2 film tells incredible true story of first Nazi death camp escape | Films | Entertainment

In 1942, World War 2 was raging across Europe and the Nazis had quietly opened their first extermination camp at Chelmno.

Two Polish Jews named Michael Podchlebnik and Szlama Ber Winer were the first death camp escapees of the Holocaust.

Together, they planned to provide the first eyewitness accounts of Hitler’s genocide.

Now the first film to depict the previously untold true story is set to release in cinemas next month.

The World Will Tremble was written and directed by Lior Geller, who spent a decade researching the Chelmno extermination camp, assisted by a historian from Jerusalem’s Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial Centre.

Holocaust survivors and Yad Vashem have described the film as “destined to become one of the most important, watched, and studied films on the Holocaust.” The film stars Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Jeremy Neumark Jones, Anton Lesser, David Kross and Michael Fox.

The World Will Tremble will be released in UK cinemas on April 7, 2025.
