How to remove limescale from shower heads fast without natural cleaning sprays

Limescale attaches itself to many areas around the home, with the bathroom being the most common room for stubborn buildup. When limescale takes hold of your shower head, it not only makes the fixture look unsightly but also reduces the flow of water by clogging the holes where water escapes. While white vinegar is a go-to natural descaling solution, cleaning enthusiast Lianne Wood didn’t succeed due to the limescale's severity.

After many suggestions from fellow cleaning lovers, she found that a 2p coin worked in seconds. Taking to the Facebook group Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips and Tricks, Lianne wrote: “So, I’ve lived in my house for a long time now! The shower head on our taps does not work properly. Because of the thick limescale, water doesn’t spray properly."

Lianne added: “I’ve tried cleaning it over the years, but gave up. I tried using vinegar, but it wouldn’t remove the shower head limescale completely. That is until tonight thanks to seeing the 2p hack. It worked well on the limescale in 15 seconds. It’s so much better!”

The Mrs Hinch fan shared before-and-after pictures of her shower head. In the first picture, the fixture was covered in black limescale, and in the second, it had fully gone.

So, how does a 2p coin work as a descaling hack? It is thought that a 2p coin creates a chemical reaction between copper and limescale to break it down.

Shelley Law also took to the Facebook page to share her great results using a 2p coin on her shower head and taps.

She said, “For many years, I’ve tried different lotions and potions to solve the limescale problem on these taps and shower heads.

“I joined this group and saw a few mentions of a 2p coin, I was sceptical, I thought ‘well I’ve tried everything else, what have I got to lose”? We have a winner. The limescale is all gone now.”

Fellow group members responded to the post and shared their thoughts on this limescale descaling tip. Heather McKee commented, “I tried the 2p tip; it's amazing. I’m descaling everything now.”

Jadejemma wrote: “Amazing isn’t i! I was like you and super skeptical but now I look around for any signs of limescale anywhere just to do some more.”

AJ WB said: “I was sceptical too but it really does work! Oly problem I have now is the limescale was basically holding the 20-year-old tap together and now its dripping constantly.”
