Last chance to see Michael Caine World War 2 classic before leaving Amazon Prime | Films | Entertainment

Back in 1977, Sir Richard Attenborough directed his three-hour World War 2 epic about Operation Market Garden.

The dramatisation of the failed 1944 Allied operation in Nazi-occupied Netherlands is called A Bridge Too Far and was based on the history book of the same name by Cornelius Ryan.

The historian’s The Longest Day was previously adapted into the 1962 D-Day movie starring John Wayne.

A Bridge Too Far features an impressive ensemble cast, including Michael Caine, Sean Connery, Gene Hackman, Anthony Hopkins, Laurence Olivier, Robert Redford and more.

Nominated for eight BAFTAs, the film took home four on the night despite mixed reviews up release.

The BAFTA wins were for Best Sound, Best Film Music, Best Cinematography and Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Edward Fox as Lieutenant-General Brian Horrocks.

A Bridge Too Far will leave Amazon Prime Video within 30 days.
