Brits are bracing for a hit to their wallets as the annual April price hike is just around the corner, with household bills set to increase across the board. But in a timely move, Sky has reduced the price of its most affordable broadband offering, giving consumers a chance to ease their financial burden. As inflation dictates an upward trend in pricing, customers typically face increased costs for utilities such as energy, mobile phone, and broadband services. Sky is among the firms adjusting its tariffs, with a 6.2% average rise in broadband fees already announced. Last month, Sky's Chief Operating Officer Devesh Raj said: "From April, our TV and broadband packages will increase by an average of 6.2%, which is either in line with or lower than other providers. Over the last four years, our prices have broadly increased in line with inflation, reflecting our ongoing commitment to fair and transparent pricing. 

"We will be reaching out to every customer impacted in the coming weeks, to provide clarity about how their products and services will be affected." In a strategic play to attract new subscribers, Sky has now discounted its Full Fibre 75 broadband plan, dropping the monthly rate to £25. Usually set at £27, this 'online exclusive' offer represents a saving of £48 over the life of the contract and boasts average speeds of 75Mbps.

Sky also provides faster options with speeds ranging from 100Mbps to 300Mbps, priced between £27 and £29. Sky is one of the providers that have adopted the new One Touch Switch scheme, which allows customers to switch without having to contact their current provider, reports Birmingham Live.

However, Sky does warn that its 'prices may change' during the 24-month contract, but it is one of the few providers that allow customers to cancel their contract early without a termination fee if a price rise is confirmed. Sky also recently unveiled its revamped TV bundles, including the £35 Essential TV and Full Fibre 150 broadband deal, which includes hundreds of TV channels and free Netflix and Discovery+ subscriptions.

In contrast, Sky's competitor Virgin Media now offers its broadband services starting at £23.99 for its M125 Fibre Broadband plan, boasting an average speed of 132Mbps. This package is touted as being perfect for busy households with five to nine devices, whether they're used for streaming or gaming.

Virgin has fixed its prices for this year, but it has announced a £3.50 increase on its broadband contracts from April 2026. It's also worth noting that Virgin's contracts last for 18 months, compared to Sky's 24.

However, broadband speeds can fluctuate depending on the area, so it's advisable to check what's available using each provider's coverage checker before making a commitment. Sky has racked up numerous reviews from customers on Trustpilot, with one praising the 'seamless' switch.

One reviewer said: "We moved over from BT to Sky 3 months ago. The move over was made seamless and well managed. The Router is excellent with good Wi-Fi. So far very happy."

Another said: "I used sky broadband for many years before moving house. And after moving I stayed connected. It's efficient, reliable and affordable broadband."

Despite some praise for Sky's customer support being 'much better' than other providers, a less satisfied user shared a caveat: "We do have a speed slower than promised but it's working better than any other we can get here."
