5 plants great for adding colour to your garden - 'always' grow back

Warmer weather is finally upon us, and if your garden is your pride and joy, this will come as good news. It's likey the winter caused some wear and tear, but now that spring is nearly here, it's the perfect time to fix that.

Aside from cutting the grass and pruning your plants, one thing you can do to really breathe some life back is to add some colour. And thankfully there are plenty of beautiful, vibrant flowers that are great for this. That's according to Michael the Mediterranean Gardener on TikTok, who has named his top five perennial plants for an injection of garden colour.

Nepeta 'Purrsian Blue'

Showing off the pretty plant, Michael said: "Great at the front of a border, this is Nepeta Purrsian Blue."

It boasts a 'lovely aromatic foliage' and is loved by bees, so great for adding if you want to introduce more of these insects to your garden.

It flowers from May to September, but you can get ahead and plant them now so that they burst into bloom when the time comes.

Scabious

Another perennial plant that is great for adding colour to your garden is the scabious. Michael says they 'look fantastic in any kind of garden', and they look great as a filler when they're placed between other plants.

They are also loved by pollinators and even birds, so ideal if your want your garden to be full of wildlife this summer.

Achillea Cerise Queen

This gorgeous plant is perfect if you've got borders around your garden and need something to put in them.

Michael says they produce flowers 'for months on end', and every three years, you can divide this plant to create even more blooms.

Aquilegia Spring Magic

If you're looking for something delicate and whimsical then this is the flower for you.

This perennial grows to about 40cm high, with Michael praising their 'beautiful nodding flowers' in late spring and early summer. For those who like to pick flowers and make their own bouquets, these work extremely well when cut too.

Lupin

Finally, this classic cottage garden pick with interesting bell-shaped blooms will grow back year after year - so well worth adding to your garden.

Michael hailed these as another bumblebee-loving plant, which again make lovely cut flowers too.
