Man Utd: Ruben Amorim offers Ayden Heaven injury update after star stretchered off | Football | Sport

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has offered an update after Ayden Heaven was forced off on a stretcher in Sunday's 3-0 win against Leicester City. Heaven shone brightly in a dominant first-half display on his maiden Premier League start before suffering a worrying injury shortly after the break.

United paid just over £1million to recruit the 18-year-old centre-back from Arsenal in the January transfer window and raised eyebrows with his description of a 'first team signing'. Injuries to Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans fast-tracked his introduction, and Heaven grasped the opportunity with strong showings against Real Sociedad and his former club. He continued in the same vein at the King Power Stadium, wowing supporters with defensive heroics that offered optimism that United had sealed a coup.

However, Heaven could face a spell on the sidelines after landing awkwardly from a duel with Leicester forward Patson Daka.

The starlet appeared in pain after seemingly twisting his knee, and Sky Sports opted against showing replays of the uncomfortable incident.

After full-time, Amorim shared an update on Heaven's condition but could only remain coy due to the teenager being unable to identify the problem himself.

"I don't know, I don't know. It's hard to know because we have to evaluate during the week," the United boss told Sky Sports.

"And also, because he's a young kid, he doesn't know how to explain, and that makes it a little bit hard to understand how he's feeling."

Amorim took time to praise Heaven's performance on his maiden Premier League start, having expected a hint of complacency after he thrived on his first senior start midweek.

The Portuguese tactician added: "He already did [play well] against Arsenal before today and against Real Sociedad.

"Today was, for me, the most difficult game for him because he played so well against Real Sociedad, and we always expect these young kids to relax a little bit.

"But he was so focused, and he played quite well. So let's hope for the best."

Amorim also lamented the timing of the March international break, now that his side are picking up steam with a series of positive results.

United will return with a challenging run of fixtures, first travelling to Champions League hopefuls Nottingham Forest before hosting Manchester City at Old Trafford.

They then face both legs of their crucial Europa League quarter-final tie against Lyon on either side of a trip to Carabao Cup winners Newcastle United.
