Amazon slashes price of latest Pixel but Google has something better coming soon

While they might not be as popular as Samsung’s Galaxy devices, the Google Pixel range of smartphones is one of the smartest phone choices you can make in 2025 thanks to great hardware with top tier cameras, good build quality and exceptional software support.

The latest Pixel phones get seven years of updates, meaning your purchase should last long into the future compared to mobiles of the past.

If this sounds good to you, we’ve found a limited time deal on the Google Pixel 8a, a phone Express.co.uk reviewed last year and called “the easiest phone in the world to recommend” thanks to its relatively compact size, excellent main camera and strong battery life, as well as being stuffed to the gills with clever Google software features.

The phone is quite a good deal even at its RRP of £499, but now Amazon has it on sale for £349, a huge 30 percent, £150 price cut. The retailer is listing it as a ‘limited time deal’, so we’re not sure how long it’ll last.

At the time of writing, Amazon had the Bay and Porcelain colours for this price, which are blue and cream in layman’s terms. £349 gets you 128GB storage, which should be enough for most people, but if you’d rather double that to 256GB, Amazon has the Obsidian (black) Pixel 8a on sale for £409, down from £559.

The Pixel 8a was released in May 2024, making it barely ten months old and the latest A-Series Pixel to be released. With seven years of updates promised, even buying today will see the phone supported until 2031, which is excellent by modern standards.

But if you have cash to spend and it’s a Pixel you want, you might want to wait as rumour has it Google has a new Pixel A-Series phone just around the corner.

Though there is no confirmed release date, leaks reported by Express.co.uk recently showed an alleged Google Pixel 9a in four new colours, a phone that if it comes out would replace the Pixel 8a in the Pixel line up as Google’s main mid-range mobile.

Though details are sparse, an annual upgrade could mean a newer chipset, bigger battery or better cameras - we just don’t know yet. Given the 8a came out last May it would make sense that its successor would drop in May this year, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Then again, a new phone could also mean a higher price. It happened with the iPhone 16e, a £599 phone that replaced the £429 iPhone SE in Apple’s line up. Though we’d hope a Pixel 9a would cost the same £499 as the Pixel 8a, it’s possible the cost could increase.

The 9a, when it arrives, certainly won’t cost as little as £349 though, so you might want to jump now on this limited time deal and bag the latest mid-range Pixel at a much more palatable price.
