UK snow maps show big east-west divide as one side of Britain battered | Weather | News

Chilly conditions could be heading to the UK again this March with snow potentially on the way for Brits. Latest maps from WXCHARTS show a flurry of snow coating the UK in the next week. On Tuesday 11 March by 12 noon, maps show snow will hit parts of Scotland and the north of England including Newcastle and the Lake District.

It will also stretch down to Birmingham and London with much of the Midlands with a small part of North Wales also seeing some snow. In the east of England, there will be rain rather than snow with much of this part of the country seeing 0.2mm of rain per hour.

By 3pm on the same day, snow will move west across the UK reaching more areas including much more of the midlands and Wales.

Maps show areas impacted will be Newcastle, Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff and Sheffield which will see around 0.2-0.4cm of snowfall per hour.

By Tuesday 11 March at 6pm, most of the UK will see freezing temperatures.

The coldest temperatures are likely to be seen in the Yorkshire Dales where -7C will be seen.

According to the Met Office, high pressure will build across the UK from the northwest during this period.

It says: “This will bring north or northeasterly winds during the middle of next week, with a mixture of sunny spells and some showers.

“The showers are likely to be most frequent in the north and east, and they will bring some snow to high ground.

“Temperatures are expected to be below normal. Through the end of the week and the following weekend, fine and dry conditions are likely for many areas, although a few showers are likely along coasts.

“Temperatures will likely be below normal. Into the week after, conditions will probably become milder and more changeable with some periods of rain and strong winds.”

This comes after the UK began with a snowy start this January when hundreds of schools were forced to shut due to icy conditions.
