Canada's fate uncertain entering final day of wheelchair curling worlds round robin

Canada split its games Wednesday at the world wheelchair curling championship, leaving it in an uncertain position heading into the final day of round-robin competition in Stevenston, Scotland.

The Canadian rink skipped by Gil Dash of Wolseley, Sask., beat Slovakia 6-3 in the morning draw on the strength of a steal of two in the sixth end.

However, Canada missed a chance to improve its playoff chances with a 5-4 extra-end loss to Sweden in the late draw.

The results put Canada in a tie for third at 5-4 with Norway, Scotland and Sweden with three draws remaining. The top six teams move on to the playoffs.

China and South Korea led the standings at 7-2 and qualified for the playoffs. England and Italy were at 4-5 with Japan, Latvia, Slovakia and the United States at 3-6.

Canada faces China in Thursday's afternoon draw before wrapping preliminary-round play against Italy.
