How to remove limescale fast with 2p method Mrs Hinch fans swear by

As spring cleaning season approaches, many are looking for efficient and budget-friendly solutions to tackle common issues that tend to build up over time, like limescale. One new hack sparked conversation among cleaning enthusiasts as it captured the attention of a Mrs Hinch fan Facebook group. The conversation began with a simple plea from one user: “Please help me remove limescale from my kitchen tap.”

What followed was an outpouring of suggestions from seasoned cleaners, but one method quickly stood out due to the unexpected tool it uses: a 2p coin.

“I was amazed at how well it worked,” said one fan, sharing how she used a copper coin to tackle the mineral build-up.

"Find a 2p or 1p coin (has to be copper). Get it wet and rub it over the limescale. The copper reacts with the limescale, and it will fall off."

This simple yet effective trick was backed by plumbing expert Ryan McNicholl from Spares Direct, who explained the science behind it.

He explained: “Copper coins have a naturally abrasive surface that gently scrapes away limescale, whilst a mild chemical reaction between the copper and calcium carbonate aids in breaking it down.”

Ryan went on to highlight the best part of the hack: "The best part about this cleaning hack is that it's not only quick and effective but also uses something most people will already have lying around at home, making it a budget-friendly way to clean off limescale."

What’s more, this little trick isn’t limited to just taps, as it works wonders on showerheads and toilets too, providing an easy and handy solution to tackle limescale buildup across the home.

"Simply dampen a copper coin and gently rub it over the limescale-affected area, being careful not to apply too much pressure" Ryan added.

“The limescale will start to peel away with the coin. Once done, rinse with water and wipe clean for a sparkling tap!”

While it may seem slightly unusual, giving this quirky method a go could save you time and money on expensive products or professional cleans.
