Brits are being urged to try a more "authentic" beer than Madri and Birra Moretti, which is brewed closer to home than you may think. Part of Madri and Birra Moretti's allure is that it transports you poolside with an ice-cold beer in your hand, and the sun beating down on your back. Half of millennials even said they were happy to pay more for a continental beer rather than anything made in Britain, according to a study by Opinion Matters of 2,019 people, and it is easy to understand why when you look out the grey window.

However, these beers are actually brewed much closer to home than the sunny European mainland — right here in England, with Birra Moretti in Manchester and Madri in Tadcaster, Yorkshire. So instead, Brits are being urged to try a totally "authentic" beverage that is never brewed outside its country of origin - Budweiser Budvar.

Not to be confused with its American namesharer Budweiser, this beer is owned by Czech government, so its whole ethos is about keeping production inside the country.

Only 10 head brewers have been trusted with the brewing process in its 129-year history, and head brewer Adam Broz confirmed brewing won't change: "There is no way we could brew elsewhere in the world and still be considered authentically Czech."

Broz told the BBC: "Firstly there are the ingredients. To be authentic you need quality, local Czech ingredients... and there is no other place with identical water like our brewery's natural well.

"Secondly, there is the equipment of the brewery... if you have two breweries, they won't always have exactly the same geometry or size, and you could end up with significant differences despite using the same recipe."

One drinker posted a picture on X after trying it for the first time, saying: "First proper Budweiser Budvar in Czech Republic. Much better than the American version!"

A spokesperson for Heineken UK, which brews Moretti, confirmed to the BBC that the beer is brewed with the same ingredients, recipe and to the same quality standards as in Italy.

Karen Albert, Premium Brands Director of Molson Coors Beverage Company, previously confirmed that Madrí Excepcional combines the "craft and skill" of Spanish brewer Carlos Garcia at La Sagra brewery, with the Molson Coors brewers in the UK.
