A home  hacks guru has shared a nifty way for making fresh flowers last for longer. As spring is just around the corner, it’s time to decorate your home with all of the wonderful smelling and colourful blooms.

Typically fresh flowers can last anywhere between seven to ten days, but this depends on the type of flowers, how they’re cut, and ultimately, how they’re cared for. But if you find that your flowers are wilting and browning prematurely, Chantel Mila detailed a simple hack for keeping them longlasting. In a TikTok video from February, Chantel explained that you only need to add two store cupboard staples to your vase for longevity, saying it’s “always” worked for her.

She said: “Here’s the trick to make your flowers last longer.

“Fill a vase with water and add one tablespoon of sugar to nourish the flowers, and two tablespoons of white vinegar to inhibit bacteria growth.”

But Chantel’s hack doesn’t stop there, explaining you need to make sure you trim the flower stems to the right length and angle.

She continued: “Trim the ends at a 45 degree angle, remove any excess foliage, and enjoy your fresh blooms for longer.”

Chantel’s video has been viewed over a massive 332,200 times, receiving 10,600 likes and 47 comments.

One follower asked: “Do I add the flower food they come with too for the first day?”

Chantel instructed: “You can add the powder on the first day then use this mix on day 2-3 when you switch the water.”

She also recommended changing the vase’s water every two to three days.
