Major number plate rules change from tomorrow with hundreds of designs banned - full list

For March, officials have confirmed that a whopping 210 plates will face the axe with a full list already being revealed.

Among those included are references to violence such as  ‘ST25 ABB’ and ‘US25 WAR’.

Iain Reid, Head of Editorial at Carwow, said: “The twice-yearly plate-change always sparks some interest in the new car market, as car buyers get a kick out of having a new number plate and many are willing to wait for one.

“Many drivers go one step further to express themselves with a personalised plate, but it’s important to ensure not to cause offence.

“Car makers and dealers will be out to take a big slice of new car sales with special offers and tempting finance packages. So, if you’re looking to buy a 25-plate car, look out for models with finance or low-rate finance deals.”

According to TopReg, the DVLA ditches some designs to “maintain decorum and respect on the roads”.

However, they stress it does mean road users miss out on a “few funny number plates" throughout the year.

They added: “The decision to ban certain plates is made by members of a DVLA steering group who meet at least twice a year to review potentially offensive combinations.”
