Oven cleaning: I removed grime from my oven using an incredible £3 product

Ovens can become caked in grease and grime very quickly, which isn’t just unhygienic; it can also make the appliance work harder to heat food.

After removing a couple of oven liners I had at the bottom of the appliance, I was shocked to find a pile of burnt-on food and grime build-up.

I quickly headed down to my local Home Bargains to see what they had on offer, and I was surprised to find a whole range of products.

I purchased the Oven Pride Complete Oven Cleaning System from the store for around £3, and it comes complete with a solution, a bag and gloves.

The company behind the product said: “Transform your oven with our powerful all-in-one cleaning system, which tackles tough grease and burnt-on food to give unbeatable results and leave your oven sparkling clean.”

It’s important to wear gloves when using this product at all times, making sure to cover arms and wrists to avoid irritation.

Step one: Cleaning racks and grills

To start with, I carefully placed two oven racks into the provided cleaning bag, being careful not to tear or puncture the bag when doing so.

I then poured in around half of the cleaning solution before sealing the bag, taking care not to seal in any air.

The clear solution immediately started to get to work, and within minutes, the solution was brown, and the racks were looking clean.

After tilting the bag to make sure the racks were covered, I put them to one side for four hours.

Step two: Cleaning the oven interior

Making sure to wear the same gloves, I poured the remaining solution into my two ovens, making sure to evenly distribute it.

With a sponge, I carefully applied some to the rest of the oven, working from back to front.

I then left this to soak for four hours, but the instructions say you can leave it to work overnight for the best results.

Step three: Cleaning the oven interior part two

After four hours, I took a sponge and wiped the interior of the oven, where lots of sludge and burnt-on food came away effortlessly.

Without any scrubbing at all, my oven was looking brand new. I then rinsed thoroughly with lots of hot, soapy water to ensure no product was left inside the appliance.

Step four: Oven racks

Whilst wearing gloves, I carefully removed the racks from the bag, and I was so surprised at how well they had cleaned because no other product had managed to get them that clean before.

I rinsed and soaked them in the sink with hot water before drying them and placing them back in the oven. Overall, my appliance was sparkling, and I was so shocked at how well the product worked, considering it was only £3.

It’s important to follow manufacturer’s instructions when using chemicals so I made sure to dispose of it all in a safe manner.

Other similar products to Oven Pride are available, including Astonish Oven and Grill Specialist cleaning paste, Oven Brite, and Mr Muscle Oven Cleaner.

Alternatively, you could try using a natural method such as white vinegar and baking soda. These non-toxic ingredients can provide incredible cleaning power when combined and are relatively affordable.
