Amad Diallo 'suffers devastating injury' in crippling blow for Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim | Football | Sport

Manchester United winger Amad Diallo is expected to miss the rest of the season after suffering a devastating ankle injury.

An incident which occurred in training earlier this week will see Amad sidelined for the trip to Tottenham on Sunday, and manager Ruben Amorim may not be able to call on him again until 2025/26.

Amad has been one of the club's most reliable performers in his first campaign as a United regular. The 22-year-old has bagged six goals and laid on six more in the Premier League, making him the most productive scorer and creator in the squad.

According to Fabrizio Romano, United's electric winger is set to be unavailable for the next three months. With the Red Devils' final game of the season coming against Aston Villa at Old Trafford on May 25, there is a high chance that Amad's campaign is over.

Amorim hinted that he had been given some bad news during his press conference on Friday, although he stopped short of naming names. "It was a good week until two days ago," he said. "We have one or two issues, but we are waiting [for more information]. We have one player who is sick, so we will see the team at the weekend."

Kobbie Mainoo, Toby Collyer and Manuel Ugarte will also miss the Spurs trip after coming down with new injuries. A number of academy players, including teenage striker Chido Obi, have travelled with the squad.

United sent Marcus Rashford and Antony out on loan in the January transfer window without signing replacements. That may now come back to bite them, with Alejandro Garnacho the only natural wide man left in Amorim's ranks.

Mason Mount would be an option but he is still out with a thigh injury. Midfielders Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes have occasionally been used as part of the front-three, but neither of them bring the natural width offered by Amad.

Amorim will also miss the Ivorian's versatility, having used him both as a wing-back and an inside forward this season. Amad, who signed from Atalanta in a deal worth up to £37million in 2021, impressed on loan at Rangers and Sunderland before finally getting his shot in the United first team.

His absence will not help Amorim one bit as he bids to drag United up the table and fight for silverware. They sit 13th with only 14 Premier League games left to play, and further tricky assignments await in the FA Cup fifth round and the Europa League knockouts.
