Mason Greenwood no longer exists in the eyes of the BBC, according to one European football pundit.

Greenwood left Manchester United in the summer, joining Ligue 1 outfit Marseille in a deal worth £26million.

It comes after he was arrested in January 2022 and charged later that year with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He denied any wrongdoing and the charges were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service after key witnesses withdrew their involvement.

Since joining Marseille, the Englishman has shone in the French first tier, scoring 14 goals in his 23 appearances across all competitions this season.

But according to French football journalist Julien Laurens, the BBC refuse to acknowledge Greenwood in any of their football-related analysis.

Speaking to After Foot, the journalist said: “He doesn't exist anymore. On the BBC, in the Euroleagues show on European and foreign football, we don't talk about Mason Greenwood.”

Explaining it’s because the public service broadcaster will receive complaints if they discuss Greenwood’s performances, Laurens added: “We can talk about Marseille, [Roberto] De Zerbi, [Adrien] Rabiot…

“People complain, write to the BBC saying: ‘Why are you talking about him? We shouldn't talk about him’.”

Having had to move away from England to rebuild his footballing career, Greenwood is believed to be eyeing up a return to the international scene.

Last year it was reported that Greenwood was keen to sit down and speak with new England boss Thomas Tuchel about his international future, having also had an offer to represent Jamaica, who he’s eligible to play for.

A source close to the forward told The Sun that Greenwood is tempted by the possibility of turning out for the Reggae Boyz.

They said: "Mason knows his chances of playing for England again are very slim. But he wants to check with the FA and Tuchel now he has been appointed, to see what they think.

“He is determined to play at the highest level and that means the World Cup. So if England don’t want him, he’ll switch to Jamaica and try and get to the 2026 World Cup that way.”

Greenwood is believed to have completed the necessary paperwork to switch international allegiances.

Jamaica currently sit second in their qualification group for the 2026 World Cup, having won their opening two matches in the second-round phase.

A top-two finish will confirm progression into the third round, where they’ll battle it out for automatic and play-off qualification to the finals.
