Gardener's simple trick to check if your plants are healthy

It can be really easy to neglect a houseplant as they compete for attention with busy lifestyles.

Many owners may unintentionally overlook their green companions, but there are ways to check in on them and save any dying plants.

A gardener, known as Carla, shared her simple trick on YouTube to help plant lovers determine if their houseplants are thriving or need a little extra care.

According to Carla, one of the easiest ways to assess the health of your plant is by checking the weight of the pot.

"When your pot is really light, it is a clear sign that it needs water," she explained. She recommends watering houseplants from the bottom to ensure they absorb moisture effectively.

Before watering, however, Carla said it is important to tidy up the plants.

She suggested conducting some maintenance to remove any dead leaves, both from the plant itself and from the soil, where decaying matter could hinder growth.

“The first thing you want to do is clean up your plants,” she advised.

Healthy leaves are a good indicator of plant vitality.

According to Carla, vibrant green leaves signal a thriving plant, while yellowing leaves can denote distress.

To further test plant health, she recommends a gentle tug on the leaves, if they remain firmly attached, your plant is in good shape.

Carla noted that curled leaves are a clear indicator that your plant is thirsty, while leaves that feel light and lack firmness may suggest a lack of hydration. Once dead parts are removed, it’s time to refresh the plant's nourishment with water or appropriate nutrients.

For plant care, Carla advised erring on the side of caution with watering.

“It is better to underwater your plants rather than overwater, as excess moisture can lead to root rot,” she warned.

Ensuring the plant has good soil, adequate light, and proper drainage is essential for reviving a struggling plant.

With these simple tips, even novice gardeners can take proactive steps to ensure their houseplants flourish, creating a vibrant indoor garden that brings joy to their homes.
