Kelly Somers issues apology to Alex Scott live on BBC during FA Cup fifth round draw | Football | Sport

Kelly Somers issued an apology to Alex Scott at the end of the FA Cup fifth round draw on Monday evening. The draw was screened live on the BBC, with Premier League giants Manchester United and Manchester City both being handed home ties.

The draw was carried out by former Arsenal stars Theo Walcott and Scott, with the Football Focus presenter emptying a bag of balls into a container before it commenced.

Walcott picked out the home teams, while Scott was on hand to draw the away sides.

As the draw was about to end, Scott was given the task of picking out the final ball, which was the No. 6 of Ipswich.

When she read out the number, Somers stated: “It should be Ipswich Town.” And Scott momentarily thought the draw had gone wrong due to the host's clumsy wording.

The former right-back looked on confused and then placed her hand to her chest as she exclaimed: “Oh, you scared me then. I was like, what?”

Walcott and Scott burst into laughter as they realised there had been no disaster. And Somers reassured the duo: “Perfectly done - do not worry.”

Somers then issued an apology as she said: “Sorry for scaring you there, it was expertly done.”

The draw saw Plymouth rewarded for their giant-killing endeavours against Liverpool as they were handed a trip to face Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. The Championship side stunned Arne Slot’s men at Home Park on Sunday as Ryan Hardie scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot.

Manchester United, meanwhile, will host Fulham in one of four potential all Premier League affairs.

Brighton will travel to Newcastle, Wolves will visit Bournemouth, and Ipswich will have a trip to either Exeter or Nottingham Forest to look forward to.

Elsewhere there will be a Lancashire derby between Preston and Burnley, while Aston Villa will host Cardiff. And the winner of Monday night’s clash between Doncaster and Crystal Palace will welcome Millwall.

Manchester United are the reigning FA Cup champions, having seen off Manchester City in last year’s final at Wembley.

And Ruben Amorim’s side booked their place in this season’s fifth round after overcoming a 1-0 deficit to defeat Leicester 2-1 at Old Trafford on Friday night.

Pep Guardiola’s City side are the favourites to land the trophy this season, despite the fact they have struggled on the pitch since the campaign got underway. Newcastle and Aston Villa are the second and third favourites respectively ahead of United and Bournemouth.
