Garbine Muguruza has landed a new job nearly a year after ending her tennis career. The two-time Grand Slam champion will enter the world of broadcasting as part of an agreement with Tennis Channel.

Muguruza wowed Wimbledon fans by winning at SW19 in 2017. She defeated Venus Williams in a triumph that came at the height of her career.

The year before, the Spaniard defeated the other Williams sister, Serena, to win the French Open. Upon winning Wimbledon, she became the world No. 1 but lost that place later in the year.

Muguruza announced her retirement in April last year, more than 12 months after her last match. She was subsequently announced as the WTA Finals tournament director and has now been named as an ambassador for Tennis Channel.

The 31-year-old will be a presenter on Tennis Channel Spain and is set to make her broadcasting debut at the Doha Open this week. "Throughout my playing career, I have witnessed the birth and growth of Tennis Channel in the United States,” Muguruza said.

"They were there for some of my most special moments—when I won Roland Garros, Wimbledon, and the WTA Finals in Mexico.

"They are a key part of the global tennis circuit, and I’m thrilled that they thought of me for their expansion into Spain.

"We are a country of great champions and passionate tennis fans, so I hope that with Tennis Channel’s arrival, we can present the sport that has given me so much in a more modern, engaging way.

"I’m confident that, through our exclusive content, fans will gain a deeper insight into professional tennis. It’s a spectacular opportunity, and I’m eager to get started."

Her decision to retire came after Muguruza concluded that she wanted to spend more time with her family. The 2021 ATP Finals champion married model Arthur Borges last year.

The couple met in a chance encounter in New York’s Central Park. Borges, a fan, had wished her good luck and asked to take a selfie before the upcoming US Open.

"My hotel was close to Central Park and I was bored, so I thought I should go for a walk," she explained in an interview with HOLA! Spain.

"I go out and I run into him on the street. Suddenly, he turns and says, 'Good luck at the US Open.' I was left thinking, 'Wow, he's so handsome.'"
