Drivers warned they face new MOT price rise for first time in 14 years![]() The IGA confirmed they have now been invited to a meeting by The Future of Roads Minister Lilian Greenwood MP. They stressed discussions would be focussing on the “critical financial challenges posed” by an MOT cap which they claim “threatens the viability of independent garages” Stuart James, Chief Executive of the IGA said: “We are honoured to have the opportunity to discuss the pressing issues around the stagnant MOT fees. “This meeting is a crucial step in highlighting how the unchanged fee, coupled with inflationary pressures and additional costs outlined in the recent autumn budget, creates an unsustainable environment for many independent garage businesses. “The IGA is advocating for a fairer economic landscape that not only supports independent garages but also prioritises consumer safety and workforce development. “I will remain persistent in my dedication to ensuring our members can operate their businesses in a fair and sustainable environment, while delivering this essential service and upholding the UK’s reputation for having some of the safest roads in the world.” Analysis has shown more than 29 million MOT tests are carried out across the UK every year with exams held at over 22,000 garages. The IGA warned that maintaining the “quality and integrity of MOT testing” required extra funding with increased rates the way to go. They stressed that increasing costs was a necessary step to ensure garages can continue to invest in the service. This includes buying and installing more advanced equipment and continuing to train future technicians. Source link Posted: 2025-02-10 10:15:40 |
