PlayStation network outage sees gamers all saying the same thing | Gaming | Entertainment

PlayStation Network (PSN) users have been hit by a multi-hour outage that began on Friday (February 7).

Sony's PSN status page indicates that account management, gaming and social, PlayStation Video, PlayStation Store, and the PlayStation Direct website are all currently facing issues.

Sony has acknowledged that gamers may struggle to launch games, apps, or network features and has promised to rectify the problems "as soon as possible."

The issue was publicised when the official @AskPlaystation account posted on X: "We are aware some users might be currently experiencing issues with PSN." It directed those affected to its PlayStation Network Service Status page.

The outage has prompted many gamers to suggest one thing – switching to an Xbox. One user urged others: "Time to get an Xbox," while another concurred that "Xbox was superior". A third added: "Don't see this happening to Xbox."

Another stated: "This is why I encourage everyone I know to get an Xbox over a PlayStation. And I still have my PS2 which is a classic. But parties are now free on Xbox. All you need to do is just get a subscription to gamepass core or ultimate and you're golden."

While many PlayStation users experienced issues, others were left puzzled as their systems remained unaffected. One user confidently stated: "Mine still works."

Another chimed in with:"I've been on the game for like 2 hours... I didn't experience any issues with my PSN." While a third concurred, noting, "Been playing for a few hours. No problem."

Despite this mixed feedback, Sony's official status website reported that the disruptions began at 7PM ET, although Downdetector began registering complaints from users about an hour earlier, around 6PM ET.

At its height, Downdetector received close to 70,000 reports regarding service problems. Moreover, the PlayStation subreddit r/PlayStation saw a surge in activity, with a thread about the outage amassing over 9,000 comments.
