Luke Littler has his eyes on the unique target of owning a football club. The young sensation, known as 'The Nuke', is considering following in the footsteps of Wrexham's celebrity owner Ryan Reynolds, but unlike the Hollywood star, he's not looking to splash out big money just yet.

Instead, the Manchester United enthusiast is thinking of starting modestly by investing in his local team, Warrington Town. Littler told the Daily Star: "It would be an investment for myself in the coming years."

He added: "I've got a local team. Warrington Town, who are in National League North...Maybe that could be an idea for the future." At just 18, Littler has already amassed a fortune, becoming a millionaire thanks to his success in darts, including triumphing at January's PDC World Championship.

Should he venture into football ownership, he'd join a growing list of celebrities and sports stars who have dipped their toes into the beautiful game. Reynolds, along with actor Rob McElhenney, has made significant changes at Welsh club Wrexham, while NFL icons Tom Brady and JJ Watt have stakes in Birmingham and Burnley.

A rugby league fan as well, Littler will see Warrington Wolves' stadium renamed in his honour for their Super League opener against Catalans Dragons on February 21. 'The Nuke' will be the guest of honour, leading the teams out onto the pitch.

In other news, darts champion Michael van Gerwen has criticised the youngster for arriving late to a Premier League media event in Belfast. Littler cited oversleeping from a morning nap as the reason for his tardiness, leaving his competitors hanging.

However, Van Gerwen was less than impressed by the excuse, explaining: "They need to stop treating him as a baby. He's not a baby any more. It's a professional sport so you have to be responsible for your actions as well, simple as that."

Littler will hope to use Van Gerwen's scathing critique when he meets him at the oche on Thursday evening fro the openening night of Premier League Darts. It will come as the third meeting of 2025 thus far between the youngster and the Dutchman, with Littler prevailing 7-3 over his adversary in the final of the PDC World Championship in January, before besting him 6-3 at the Dutch Darts Masters later in the month.
