Air fryer owners urged to avoid adding too much of one ingredient over fire risk

Air fryers make cooking each meal much easier and swifter than traditional appliances, but how you prepare your food may need to be a bit different.

To make sure your food is packed full of flavour you may turn to your collection of herbs and spices, but experts say there’s a danger to overseasoning.

It’s normal to season your food - whether that be meat, fish or veggies -before cooking them to perfection, but adding too much seasoning could cause a problem.

Experts at Saga explained that going overboard on the seasoning could pose a fire hazard while using an air fryer.

Seasoning, as well as marinades, can clog the machine if there’s too much.

Clogging important parts of the air fryer could cause the gadget to catch fire, explained Saga.

It’s also important to make sure there isn’t excess seasoning stuck to the machine, which could cause grime to build up too.

Another downside to overloading the seasoning could be that it gets singed by the heat, ultimately achieving the opposite of its desired effect.

So to avoid any torched seasonings on your food, the experts at Lifehacker advised to delay seasoning until later.

For vegetables, cook them with a bit of oil and salt to start with.

They wrote: “To prevent that sad result, I prepare the vegetable quite simply for its trip to the air fryer—a toss with enough oil and salt to coat. That’s it.

“Oil will help conduct the heat to all parts of the veg more equally and salt draws out moisture while adding flavor. All of these things result in faster, more even cooking. Oh, and salt doesn’t burn.”

Once the veggies are cooked then cover them in your choice of seasonings.

For vegetables like potatoes, bloom herbs and seasonings in a small pan on the hob while the veggies are in the air fryer.

To complete the ‘blooming’ process, add a tablespoon or slightly more of olive oil or butter to a saucepan.

Stir in the dry seasonings and heat it up over low heat for about two minutes.
