Keep garden fences 'algae-free for years' using 1 'magic' item

Garden fences can be a prime location for algae growth because wood is porous, which means it can absorb moisture.

Algae love high levels of moisture and shade, which is why you've likely spotted the unpleasant green plant growing on your garden fences.

Removing algae and ensuring it doesn't come back can be difficult, especially if you have a large garden.

However, fans of cleaning sensation Mrs Hinch have shared a simple method for removing algae without scrubbing - and it involves using just one item.

It comes after Gill Bonnick posted on the Facebook group, 'Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips': "How to clean green algae off wooden fence panels?"

The post was inundated with comments, but the most suggested solution was to use Wet & Forget.

Ally Allen said: "Wet & Forget. Spray on, then leave it to do its magic!"

Sue Abela agreed and commented on the post: "Wet & Forget. Brilliant stuff."

Rose Hird posted: "Wet & Forget. Easy to get it from most garden centres and Costco."

Wet & Forget Outdoor Mould, Lichen & Algae Remover claims to "remove contaminants such as mould, lichen, and algae without using harsh methods".

The product can be used on tiles, paving, patio, brick, tarmac, cladding, wood and artificial grass. B&Q sells the product for £18.89 while Wickes sells it for £18.

Alternatively, Mrs Hinch fans also suggested using Patio Magic, a pressure washer or bleach and water to remove algae from fences.

Shona Graham said: "Bleach and water mix. Soft scrubbing brush. Apply and leave to dry. Might need to re apply a couple of times depending how bad algae is."

Jane Wood commented: "Use a pressure washer."

Sally Giles replied: "Patio Magic in a spray bottle diluted."
