Man City player ratings vs PSG: Three stars get 3/10 in dire Champions League collapse | Football | Sport

Manchester City blew a 2-0 lead as they suffered a humiliating 4-2 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League that damages their chances of making the play-offs.

City took the lead five minutes into the second half as Jack Grealish lashed the ball into the net after coming on as a half-time substitute. And the away side doubled their advantage three minutes later as Erling Haaland swept the ball home from close range.

But City could only hang onto their lead for seven minutes, with strikes from Ousmane Dembele and Bradley Barcola levelling the scores by the hour-mark.

Joao Neves then popped up with a third goal for PSG 12 minutes before the end, with Goncalo Ramos adding a fourth at the death. City need to beat Club Brugge in their final game next week to make the knockout stage.

Express Sport takes you through how each Manchester City player performed...

Man City player ratings vs PSG

Ederson: 5

Had to be on his toes early on to keep out an effort from Desire Doue. But looked unconvincing during the second period as PSG came forward again and again.

Matheus Nunes: 3

Was unaware of Joao Neves drifting into the box to head an effort at goal early on, with City fortunate not to go behind. Raced forward with the ball as he took the responsibility to get his team moving in the right direction in the lead-up to Haaland’s goal. But dived in and was caught out as PSG hit back and then went missing along with a host of his team-mates late on.

Manuel Akanji: 4

Showed his attacking prowess when he got to the byline in the early stages of the second half before putting the ball into the box for Grealish to nudge the visitors ahead. But wasn’t able to stand up to the PSG attack as the hosts looked like scoring every time they came forward in the second half.

Ruben Dias: 6

Was booked early on and was lucky to escape another booking after catching Doue with his knee later in the first half. Launched a ball over the top of Kevin De Bruyne to set up City’s first chance of the game. Was taken off at the break.

Josko Gvardiol: 5

Cleared the ball off the line with his thigh midway through the first half as PSG thought they had found an opener. Wasn't at the races in the second half as his side capitulated.

Mateo Kovacic: 3

Allowed the PSG midfield to run through him too many times as he struggled to impact the game. Was ineffective and will want to forget the match as soon as he can.

Kevin De Bruyne: 5

Burst through to latch onto a long ball from Ruben Dias early on and picked out Haaland with an exquisite pass. Started well but went off the boil as the match wore on and couldn't galvanise his team-mates.

Savinho: 6

Was lively but should have done better with a big chance just before the break. Replaced at half-time.

Bernardo Silva: 5

Creative on the ball and attempted to make things happen. Teed up Mateo Kovacic early on and constantly looked to put the ball into dangerous areas in the first half. But his energy levels dropped and he couldn't keep his side in the ascendancy as time went on.

Phil Foden: 5

Dinked a lovely ball to Erling Haaland before teeing up Savinho just before the break. But was quiet for the majority of the match.

Erling Haaland: 6

Should have done better with a header midway through the first half. Was thwarted by Nuno Mendes half an hour into the match after getting himself into a good scoring position. Finally got his name on the scoresheet moments after Grealish had scored the opener but didn't do much else during a torrid night.

Substitutions

Rico Lewis: 3

Came on for Dias at the interval. Failed to pick up Dembele in the box for the hosts’ first goal of the evening as the France international had bags of space to score. Didn’t react quick enough for the second goal either after the ball came back off the crossbar.

Jack Grealish: 6

Got City’s evening up and running just minutes after coming on at the interval as he put his team ahead after thumping the ball into the back of the net. Was involved in the second goal as well. An improved performance from the former Aston Villa man for a brief time before the evening took a turn for the worse.

James McAtee: 6

Not an ideal match for the young star to feature in if he wanted to show his talents going forward.

Ilkay Gundogan: 4

Had a limited impact as City failed to stem the flow of attacks from PSG.

John Stones: 4

Was introduced to the action seconds before PSG took the lead. Was thrown in at the deep end and failed to stand up to the challenge.
