Nintendo Switch 2 fans spot insane change for Mario Kart 9 | Gaming | Entertainment

The Nintendo Switch 2 trailer wasn't quite as informative as we would have liked, although it's nice to finally get a look at the long-rumoured new console.

As you can see from the trailer below, the Nintendo Switch 2 features a bigger display, superior Joy-Cons and backwards compatibility.

The trailer also features a short clip of Mario Kart running on the new Nintendo device.

While it's unclear if it's Mario Kart 9 or an upgraded version of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, fans have spotted an interesting detail with "insane" ramifications.

As you can see from the Rimea tweet below, the new/upgraded Mario Kart appears to support 24 drivers per race.

There are clearly 24 positions on the starting grid, which is double the number of drivers supported in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Needless to say, Mario Kart fans are salivating at the idea of 24-person multiplayer, and already picturing the chaos on courses such as Baby Park.

Unfortunately, fans will have to wait until the April 2 Nintendo Switch 2 Direct for confirmation.

Nintendo will reveal more about the console, the release date, pre-orders and games during the upcoming Direct.

In the meantime, all we know is that the console will launch at some point in 2025, with rumours suggesting either May or June.

It's believed Metroid Prime 4 will launch alongside the device, while demanding games such as Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth are also said to be in development.

As for the console itself, the Switch 2 is bigger than the current model, featuring improved Joy-Cons, a more flexible kickstand and backwards compatibility.

Nintendo Switch Online accounts will also transfer over to the new console.

Fans will be able to go hands-on with the console during special events taking place around the world during April and May.

For UK fans, a Switch 2 Experience event be held from April 11 until April 13.
