Luke Littler’s brother Leon has hinted he could get through the wads of cash handed to him by the darts world champion just by celebrating the title success. Littler, 17, became the youngest player in darts history to lift the Sid Waddell trophy on Friday when he defeated Michael van Gerwen in the World Championship final at Alexandra Palace.

Van Gerwen was no match for the teenage sensation as the Dutchman quickly went 4-0 behind.

And Littler closed out the victory in convincing fashion as he won the showdown 7-3, a year after losing to Luke Humphries in the showpiece match.

Littler was pictured handing cash to his brother next to an open car door outside the venue in the aftermath of his title triumph. But he wasn’t able to join his brother in a celebratory drink at a pub as he is still under the legal drinking age.

Leon joked to The Sun on Friday night: “Can't do much with him, can you. He's 17.”

And the older sibling, who turned 21 this weekend, suggested he knew how to make the most of Littler’s glory as he added: “He'll go out, chill on his game, maybe order some food. I'll do the celebrating for him.”

Littler got his hands on a whopping £500,000 after overcoming Van Gerwen and has now won around £1.5million in prize money since bursting onto the darts scene 13 months ago.

The blockbuster star has earned even more than that through sponsorship deals and will quickly see his bank balance increasing in the years ahead if he can keep up his outstanding form. But he has been reluctant to discuss the money side of the sport.

“I started off 18 months in a nappy on a magnetic board,” he explained after dispatching Van Gerwen. “Obviously, when I’d say to my mates I’ve got a darts competition, they would say, ‘Darts, have you not seen it?’ But I’ve come a long way. Me and my family have come a long way.

“There probably will be a big purchase when I get my head around the amount of money I’ve won, but I have said it in other interviews, I don’t like to talk about the money. But it is there.”

Littler will return to the oche at the Bahrain Darts Masters later this month after winning the event in his first appearance last year.

And he is continuing to keep his feet on the ground after telling BBC Breakfast on Saturday morning: “People will say I am the best at the minute but I've said I will never admit I am the best. But maybe my performances show I am the best.”
