How to cook broccoli correctly and fast with easy method

While it seems like a simple veggie to cook, many people have been getting it all wrong.

You may feel confident that you know how to cook broccoli, but you are not meant to cut it up before boiling or steaming it.

TikTok mum Monica who goes by @justyourbasilchef has shared the “easiest way to boil broccoli” and there’s no chopping beforehand involved.

In the TikTok video, Monica has a pan of boiling water, places the broccoli floret-side down, and says to “cook for two to three minutes.”

Once the time was up, Monica removed the broccoli from the pan and chopped off the stem.

This simple cooking method is not only quick but saves time in preparing food and means there is less cleanup required when cooking.

The popular healthy recipe app MyRealFood confirmed that this is a nifty trick to making cooking broccoli simpler.

A chef from the app shared in a TikTok video: “Did you know about this trick for cooking broccoli? All you need to do is submerge the head of the broccoli in boiling water and then you can cut it off super-easy and super-quick.”

Yet, the app advises not to toss away the broccoli stem but to incorporate it into a delicious dish instead.

The chef also shared advice on utilising the stalk: “You can also use the [stem] to make something really delicious as a side for your meal.

“Just slice [the stem] into little slices, put it in the frying pan with some soy sauce, and there you have it.”

Broccoli stems are incredibly nutritious. A one-cup serving – about 76g – contains just 24 calories but provides three-quarters of your daily recommended intake of Vitamin K, which regulates blood clotting, can help prevent osteoporosis and boosts the immune system, among other important functions.

The same amount of stalk provides about half the recommended amount of Vitamin C, required for the growth and repair of tissues, the production of collagen, and to repair and maintain bone and teeth health.

It is also a great source of fibre, folate, phosphorus, potassium and calcium as well as antioxidants.
