New Year's Eve weather LIVE: Wind warnings issued as Met Office maps areas affected | Weather | News

A yellow warning for wind applies across southern Scotland and northern England, including Cumbria, Northumberland and County Durham. It came into force at 7am today and will apply until 11pm. Delays to road, rail, air and ferry services are "likely", according to the Met Office.

There is another yellow warning, this time for rain, which comes into force from 3pm today and lasts until 11am tomorrow.

Heavy rain is likely to lead to disruption across Wales and parts of northern England, with a chance of flooding.

Brits have been warned to expect possible power cuts and some communities possibly being cut off because of flooding. Floodwater poses a danger to life too. The warning applies to Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and Lancashire.
