Man Utd star serves hot meals to homeless people on Christmas Eve | Football | Sport

Manchester United's Diogo Dalot brought festive cheer to the city's homeless, serving up hot meals at a local shelter on Christmas Eve.

The 25-year-old Portuguese defender, along with his fiancee Claudia Pinto Lopes, made an unannounced visit to Lifeshare, a charity in the heart of Manchester, bearing gifts of clothing and food.

The couple then dedicated their day to providing over 100 people with warm food at the charity.

Dalot expressed his connection to the city, saying: "I have lived in Manchester for over six years now and I'm proud to call this city my home. Unfortunately, homelessness is on the rise; as a family we want to raise awareness and also directly help people wherever we can.

"We have started working with Lifeshare, an incredible charity that does so much to help vulnerable people. The volunteers that I have met here today are really inspirational, they are true heroes and it was a pleasure to learn about their dedication.

"I'm really grateful that I was able to spend time with them and play a small part in helping to deliver such vital work for the people that they support."

Jahan Hussain, a trustee at Lifeshare, highlighted the impact of Dalot's visit: "Following a really difficult year, where Lifeshare even faced closure during its 40th anniversary, support like this is literally life-saving. Not long ago, we didn't know if our much-needed Christmas Project would be able to go ahead, so to then get a visit from someone who is so high profile like this is amazing.

"Diogo and his wife were brilliant and got stuck in – it was a real mood lifter for all. We rely on donations and the good will of the people of Manchester, so are truly grateful for all the support that's enabled this week to take place."

Lifeshare is hosting its annual Christmas Project, offering crucial services from 7am to 7pm, Monday to Friday this week. No questions asked, anyone needing assistance can seek shelter, a warm meal, and company.

Guests benefit from not just meals, but also hot showers, fresh clothes, and footwear. Lifeshare also draws in additional aid – with barbers, vets, and opticians contributing their expert services for free haircuts, pet care, and eye check-ups.

Dalot will return to action on Boxing Day with United as they set off to Molineux to clash with Wolves. Following a dismal 3-0 loss to Bournemouth last Sunday, Ruben Amorim’s team will spend Christmas at their lowest position since the Premier League's inception.
