UK blasted by 48 hours of non-stop snow as weather maps turn purple | Weather | News

The UK is set to experience 48 hours of consistent snowfall from January 2 to January 4, according to the latest weather maps.

Forecasts show widespread snow expected to cover parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland, and northern England, with areas shaded in purple on weather maps from WX charts, indicating significant snow depth and accumulation.

The heaviest snowfall is predicted in northern Scotland, including areas around Inverness, Aberdeen, and Wick, with potential for snow depths exceeding 20 cm.

Snowfall will also extend to parts of Northern Ireland, Newcastle, and the surrounding areas, as colder Arctic air continues to dominate weather patterns across the region.

The maps reveal not just snowfall but also accompanying freezing conditions, with widespread precipitation affecting much of the UK.

Rain, sleet, and ice are expected in southern and coastal areas, as milder air competes with the cold Arctic front dominating the north.

These conditions could cause major travel disruptions, especially in the regions highlighted in purple.

Snow depth and ice risks will make driving hazardous, and public transport networks may experience delays and cancellations.

Weather experts suggest the snow could cause disruptions to travel and daily activities.

Motorists are advised to prepare for challenging driving conditions on untreated roads, while rail and air travel could also face delays.

In addition to snow, freezing temperatures and icy conditions are likely, making outdoor activities more difficult during this period.

Residents are urged to monitor forecasts closely and take precautions to stay safe.
