Sky Sports are reportedly looking to introduce a Sunday afternoon goals show for Premier League fixtures next season.

It comes ahead of a new domestic TV deal being introduced next season, with Sky Sports holding the rights to broadcast all Sunday afternoon fixtures.

That includes any of the matches played at 2pm on Sunday, as well as their usual flagship Super Sunday programme at 4:30pm.

As things stand, only one Sunday 2pm fixture is shown on TV, but according to The Daily Mirror, that could be about to change.

It's reported by the outlet that Sky Sports are pushing to bring in a goals show that will highlight all the action from the 2pm Sunday fixtures.

Amazon Prime have ran a similar show in recent months, with Jeff Stelling anchoring their 'Every Goal Every Game' show for their midweek action.

It sees a studio full of football pundits, each watching a different match, with viewers kept abreast of the whats, whys and whos of all the games.

TNT Sports (formerly BT Sport) have ran a similar programme for their Champions League coverage since they acquired broadcast rights for Europe's premier competition.

The proposed Sky Sports goals show would likely feature between three and four matches each week, with clubs who have featured in Europa League and Conference League action more likely to be involved.

Speaking on the new broadcast deal when it was announced in 2023, Richard Masters, Premier League Chief Executive, said: "We are delighted to announce new deals with Sky Sports and TNT Sports that will extend our partnership for a further four years and see more Premier League matches than ever before shown live from 2025/26 onwards.

“As longstanding and valued partners, Sky Sports and TNT Sports are renowned for consistently delivering world-class coverage and programming. We have enjoyed record audiences and attendances in recent seasons, and we know that their continued innovation will drive more people to watch and follow the Premier League."

But attention has already switched towards the broadcast deal that will follow next season's, with talk the long-standing 3pm blackout could be scrapped.

Football fans in the UK are currently unable to watch matches at 3pm on a Saturday, but reports that is set to be binned when the next round of broadcast negotiations kick-off have been circulating.

The UK is the only country in Europe that still enforces the blackout, as per UEFA’s article 48 which allows member nations to implement a time period where football broadcasts across a two-and-a-half-hour window on weekends can be ‘blacked out’.
