The hidden danger in your bathroom that could cause ‘life long’ injuries

There’s one common household nuisance that the majority of people will ignore - but experts at Plumbworld say that leaving it can lead to potential life long injuries.

From sudden slips to unexpected falls, this common bathroom  oversight has the potential to cause serious, even life-altering injuries.

With studies revealing that bathroom-related accidents account for nearly 14 percent of all home injuries, it’s clear that what seems like a minor issue could quickly spiral into a painful ordeal.

A loose and wobbly toilet seat creates instability that could cause an unexpected slip while sitting or standing.

For the elderly, children, or individuals with limited mobility, the risks are even higher. A seat which suddenly shifts can lead to a loss of balance and falls.

The consequences of such falls can be devastating. Fractures, head injuries, and back injuries are common outcomes of bathroom-related accidents. In extreme cases, such incidents have led to permanent disability.

It’s crucial to keep up with this bathroom maintenance to ensure your space stays safe. Inspect the toilet seat regularly for looseness or instability and if you notice a wobble, it’s time to tighten the bolts which hold the seat in place.

If the seat is cracked, worn, or cannot be securely tightened, replace it with a new one. Consider investing in high-quality, non-slip designs for added safety.

If you have children or older people in your home, consider adding non-slip mats around the toilet area to reduce the risk of falls in case of instability.

A simple fix like tightening or replacing a toilet seat can make all the difference. Ignoring a loose toilet seat might seem harmless, but the risks far outweigh the effort it takes to fix the problem.

“Most people overlook small repairs, thinking they’re unimportant. But when it comes to bathroom safety, small issues can have catastrophic results,” says a representative from Plumbword.
