Younger Brits want chips over roasties with their Christmas dinnerA Christmas dinner stand-off is looming as almost 80% of younger adults are demanding that roasties are ditched in favour of chips on the big day itself. The issue is set to be more contentious than who gets to sit where or whether to dine before, during, or after the King’s Speech – as 98% of the over 65’s and digging their heels in and insisting the traditional spud is served as usual. It may put them at loggerheads with relatives aged under 34 whose love affair with chips has reached new heights – with 79% hoping to see a crispy pile of them on Christmas dining tables. Over a third (35%) of all UK adults agreed with them. Londoners are most likely to tuck into chips with their Christmas dinner this year (54%) followed by those from the West Midlands (42%). Residents of Swansea are sticking with tradition, with just 10% happy to include fries on their festive plates. However, it looks like the chip lovers could get their way – and the oldies might actually get a pleasant surprise - as almost half (45%) of those in charge of the kitchen are opting for convenience and plan on using the air fryer when preparing the most important meal of the year. And don’t bother passing round the bread sauce – a quarter of all adults (26%) would rather adorn their dinner with ketchup, rising to over half (52%) of the under 24’s The research by of 2,000 British adults into changing festive tastes by chip brand Lamb Weston also revealed that 35% of 18-24-year-olds believe the whole traditional turkey Lamb Weston, the exclusively skin-on chip brand, has partnered with Instagram sensation and chef Sam Holland to put more a modern twist on Chip-mas Dinner and champion more creative ways of using up leftovers over Twixmas – the most indulgent period between Christmas and New Year. Teamed with gravy or even ketchup – they are the perfect Christmas dinner side this festive period!” Recipe 1: Twixmas Leftover Pie with Lamb Weston Potato Dippers TopIngredients For the Pie Filling: · 3 leeks, sliced · 2 carrots, diced · 2 tbsp plain flour · 1 large glass of white wine (around 175ml) · 200ml chicken stock · 50ml cream · 1 tbsp wholegrain mustard · 1 tsp mixed dried herbs · Leftover turkey, shredded (approx. 400g, but use whatever you have) · 8 rashers of crispy bacon, crumbled For the top: · Generous helping of Lamb Weston Potato Dippers Method 1. Cook the Veggies. Heat a drizzle of oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the sliced leeks and diced carrots, then sweat gently for 8–10 minutes until soft but not browned. 2. Create the Sauce. Stir in the plain flour, ensuring the vegetables are evenly coated. Cook for 1 minute, then pour in the white wine to deglaze the pot, scraping up any bits from the bottom. Add the chicken stock, stir well, and simmer for 10 minutes until slightly thickened. 3. Add the Festive Flavours. Reduce the heat and stir in the cream, wholegrain mustard, and mixed herbs. Recipe 2: Festive Leftovers Sandwich with Lamb Weston Seasoned Twisters and melted brieIngredients For the Sandwich: · 2 slices sourdough bread · 2 tbsp cranberry sauce · A handful of leftover turkey (approx. 100g) · 2 slices crispy bacon · 4 slices brie cheese · 2 tbsp olive oil To Serve: · A generous handful of Lamb Weston Seasoned Twisters · 50g brie cheese, grated Method 1. Prepare the Twisters Preheat your oven to 180°C (fan). Spread the Lamb Weston Seasoned Twisters onto a baking tray in a single layer and bake for 30 minutes, or until golden and crispy. 2. Add the Brie Topping Five minutes before the Twisters are ready, remove the tray from the oven and grate the brie evenly over the fries. Return to the oven to let the brie melt, creating cheesy, festive chips. 3. Assemble the Sandwich Spread cranberry sauce generously over one side of each sourdough slice. Layer on the leftover turkey, followed by the crispy bacon and brie slices. Place the second slice of bread on top to form the sandwich. 4. Toast the Sandwich Brush a thin layer of olive oil on both sides of the sandwich. Heat a pan over medium heat and toast the sandwich for 2–3 minutes per side, pressing down gently with a spatula, until the bread is golden and crisp. 5.
