Royal Mail issues warning to dozens of UK postcodes

The postal service has warned that some customers may have to wait longer than usual for their post to arrive.

Royal Mail operates an air, rail and road network to keep post and parcels moving between distribution hubs and processing centres.

However, severe weather, which prompted red and amber weather warnings on Saturday, December 7, has disrupted the normal travel route for letters and parcels.

A statement from Royal Mail read: “Strong winds delayed the departure of mail travelling from our Midland Hub to Exeter and Cardiff.

“As a result, some mail posted in other parts of the UK, due for delivery in the EX and CF postcode areas may arrive later than planned.”

Elsewhere in England and Wales, red weather warnings delayed mail's departure from the south-west of England parcel hub to Cardiff and Swansea.

Customers have been warned that some mail posted yesterday in other parts of the UK to Cardiff (CF) and Swansea (SA) postcode areas may be delayed. The same warnings apply to post due for delivery in certain Bristol and Dorset postcodes.

Royal Mail customers should anticipate delays in post arriving to:

  • Postcodes BA, BS, GL and TA

Delays are also likely for mail posted in the following postcode areas due for delivery elsewhere in the UK:

  • Wales: CF, SA, LD, and NP
  • Dorset: BH and DT

Elsewhere in the UK, deliveries due today have been impacted due to high local issues in delivery offices (DO).

Royal Mail says the following areas are “most impacted” today:

  • Abingdon DO (OX13 and OX14)
  • Basingstoke DO (RG21-RG26 and RG28)
  • Bethnal Green DO (E2, E8 and E9)

Anyone posting parcels or packages for Christmas should know that final posting dates are looming.

Royal Mail has urged customers to double-check that they address their Christmas post correctly. The full address, including the complete postcode, should be written on all items.

The postal service warned that checking your postage is correct is also vital to avoid delays or additional charges for the recipient.
