Egypt has built an incredible £2.8bn Olympic city | World | News

A country in North African has built its very own incredible Olympic city in what is planned to be the country's new capital.

Egypt's huge new mega park has been under construction since 2015. The plans include a training ground, two indoor halls, an Olympic-size swimming pool and other buildings, all in hopes of the country putting in a bid to host the Olympics in 2036.

The city boasts the incredible New Administrative Capital Stadium. The arena, which opened this year, has a capacity of over 93,000, making it the country's largest stadium and the second-largest in Africa.

It is also set to replace Cairo International Stadium as the country's new national stadium.

It was reported that the entire sports complex costs 2.8 million Egyptian pounds, which is approximately £43.9 million, which seems very low for a major build as this, but that is because of a fall in the Egyptian currency.

If Eygpt were to host the Olympic games, it would be a historic moment for the continent of Africa as no African country has ever hosted since the inception of the modern Olympic Games in 1896.

Not only is Egypt considering a bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games, but it is also thinking about the 2040. President of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA), Mustapha Berraf, believes that "Africa has the capacity to organise the Games."

With the country already working to prepare itself for the potential of hosting the major international event, it could mean that Eygpt will soon make history.

Egypt has already hosted significant sports events, such as the Africa Cup of Nations and the World Handball Championships, but the Olympics is a whole new ball game.

Ashraf Ashour, professor of structural engineering at the University of Bradford, said: "The organiser of the Olympics will need to plan carefully, longer-term use of the city after this development to avoid any significant under-utilisation after the Olympics is finished."

However, with Egypt being one step ahead with their new complex, it's fair to say the country is prepared to take on the challenge.
