UK homes get a free TV boost but Sky is fighting back with a surprise

The move away from traditional over-the-air TV viewing is gathering pace. More of us are now switching away from ugly aerials and satellite dishes and moving over to streaming instead. If you've been pondering the change, there's just been a huge week that might convince you that now is the right time start using your broadband to tune into the latest channels.

Firstly, we were given the news that Freely is boosting its channels which means users will now be able to watch more things without paying a monthly subscription fee.

At launch, there were only around 20 channels to view via this streaming platform but that's now been increased to over 40.

New things to view include content from AMC Networks International UK (AMCNI UK), PBS America, GB News and QVC.

The new partnerships brings the total line-up to over 40 streamed live channels seamlessly integrated with 74,000 hours of on demand content from eleven different players.

For those not aware, Freely launched earlier this year and comes built into a swathe of new TVs including models made by Bush, Hisense and Panasonic.

Once plugged in, these connected tellies use the web to beam live and on-demand shows to the big screen, so you don't need an aerial. You can even pause live TV, get content recommendations and see what is on now and next via the TV guide.

If Freely doesn't sound feature-packed enough, then there's more good news. Sky has also confirmed that it has launched a new plan that makes signing up for its premium service a lot more affordable. The new package, which features the latest Sky Stream box, starts from just £15 per month and even includes full access to Netflix, Discovery+ and Sky Atlantic.

Due to its cheaper price, you don't get the same channel experience as more expensive bundles (these get services such as Sky Max, Sky Documentaries and Sky Comedy), but extras like Sky Sports can be added at a later date, and it's a budget way of trying the Sky Stream experience.

Never heard of Sky Stream? You can read our full Sky Stream review here but, as a quick guide, this diddy box can be DIY installed and uses your broadband to access live and on demand channels.

Sky Stream also gets neat features such as personalised recommendations, easy access to the most popular streaming apps and simple search to help you track down content faster.

You can even use the Playlists function to store shows, movies and sports events to watch at a later date.

If that £15 deal sounds enticing you can see the deal here.
