Eugenie misses Kate's big night after Sussexes followed princess to Portugal | Royal | News

Cousin to Prince William, Princess Eugenie is reported to have missed Princess Catherine's big comeback concert.

It is not yet known exactly why the Princess of York skipped out on the Together At Christmas carol concert, but it could have something to do with her splitting her time between Portugal and the UK. A move that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are said to have mimicked themselves to be closer to her and the UK.

GB News report that Eugenie's husband, Jack Brooksbank, works in Portugal for property developer Michael Meldman's Discovery Land Company. Prince Andrew's daughter wasn't the only royal to miss the festivities though, although the others may come as less of a surprise in Harry and Meghan.

Harry and Meghan are understood to have bought a holiday home in Portugal to create closer links to the UK despite moving to California in 2020 following deep rifts in the royal family.

In October 2024 it was reported that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex purchased a £3.6million villa near Princess Eugenie’s residence.

However a royal source told the Express: "The villa in Portugal is more an investment than anything else and construction hasn’t even been completed yet.

"It hasn’t been purchased as a new home, but more as a holiday retreat and something they can put their money into to protect their assets."

Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan relocated to the US after stepping back from royal duties in 2020 and have built a new life in the affluent coastal community of Montecito. But they are believed to have remained close with Princess Eugenie, 34, who visited the Sussexes in California in 2022.

She even featured in their Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan.

Heading back to Princess Catherine's concert though, Eugenie's older sister Beatrice was in attendance as representative of the York family at Westminster Abbey on Friday evening.

Eugenie's older sister, Princess Beatrice, represented the York family at Westminster Abbey on Friday (December 6, 2024) evening. She attended alongside her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, and his son from a previous relationship, Christopher Woolf (Wolfie).

Zara Tindall and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh were also in attendence.
